Ever wonder what it feels like to ride shotgun or be driving a race car as it accelerates at triple-digit speeds around a track?
The Richard Petty Driving Experience is giving NASCAR fans an opportunity to drive a professional race car at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway until Sunday.
Before getting in the car, drivers take a quick class and learn the basics of driving. Then, the fun begins, as fans have the option of either riding shotgun, driving or doing both.
NESN’s Elle Duncan went up to the Granite State to experience the thrill of riding in a race car and even got the chance to hit triple-digit speeds while driving one.
Duncan broke the century mark, maxed out at 104 miles per hour and fortunately managed to come out of the whole ordeal alive.
New Hampshire governor Maggie Hassan was there, too, and she loves the thrill of it all.
“You get a feel of the markers on the track and where they want you to accelerate,” Hassan said. “Then your confidence builds up. It’s a lot of fun.”
