With less than two months until play begins, U.S. Soccer has announced its roster for the 2015 women’s World Cup.
The roster is comprised almost entirely of familiar faces that even the most casual of soccer fans will recognize. Perhaps most noticeable is goaltender Hope Solo, 33, who once again will be in net for the United States after serving a month-long suspension this winter. Solo’s Seattle Reign teammate Megan Rapinoe returns as a notable midfielder.
Abby Wambach returns for her fourth World Cup at the forward position and is joined by standout Alex Morgan. Both are looking for their first World Cup victory. Wambach has previously helped lead the U.S. to three Olympic gold medals, while Morgan was an integral piece of the 2012 Olympic gold.
World Cup action kicks off for the U.S. squad June 8 vs. Australia.
