Jose Fernandez, by all accounts, was as vibrant a personality off the field as he was on the mound. But for all his fame and bubbling stardom, he never took himself too seriously.
That wasn’t any more evident than in the message he recently gave a Miami Marlins fan just days before the 24-year-old All-Star ace was tragically killed in a boat crash around 3 a.m. Sunday.

The photo comes from arguably the most famous Marlins fan there is, the Marlins Man.
Fernandez also tweeted this just over a year ago.
