Rex Ryan’s Seat Reportedly Red Hot; Bills Coach Could Be Fired Before Season Ends

The Rex Ryan era in Buffalo appears to be nearing its merciful end.

The Buffalo Bills, according to ESPN.com, are likely to fire Ryan soon, and the decision to let Ryan go actually could come before the 2016 season concludes.

“The widespread belief in league circles is that the Bills will make a head coaching change after the regular season ends, if not shortly before then,” the report states.

This just seems to corroborate a story from earlier in the week, when CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reported Bills owner Terry Pagula had seen enough of Ryan, going as far to say he might not even make it through the week. Ryan did survive and is preparing his team for a matchup with the Cleveland Browns this weekend.

Which brings us to our next point: It’s pure speculation, but if the Bills somehow slip up and lose to the 0-13 Browns this weekend — at home, no less — you have to think Ryan would be out of job before the season ends, especially if these reports are true.

The Bills hired Ryan before the 2015 season, and while his tenure hasn’t been a total failure, Buffalo almost certainly won’t make the playoffs for the second consecutive season. Ryan’s record with the Bills is 14-15, falling far short of the expectations Ryan himself put on the team after being hired.

Ryan hasn’t guided a team to the playoffs since bringing the New York Jets to the AFC Championship Game for the second consecutive season in 2010.
