Adam LaRoche Ready to Play Any Role The time has come for Red Sox Nation to get its first look at newcomer Adam LaRoche.

The new import from Pittsburgh will make his Boston debut on Saturday night as the Sox take on Baltimore, playing first base and giving Kevin Youkilis the night off. Manager Terry Francona still doesn’t know what role he will play in the next few months, but he insists that LaRoche, Youkilis, and third baseman Mike Lowell won’t rotate between first and third for the remainder of the season.

He’s not quite sure what system he will employ — and neither is LaRoche, but that doesn’t bother him.

“All [Francona] really said is that we don’t know right now [what his role will be],” LaRoche told NESN’s Heidi Watney on Saturday’s edition of Red Sox Pre-Game. “I’m fine with whatever my role is. Like I said [Friday], I’m pretty patient, and I’ll be ready when [Francona] wants me to get in there.

“Hopefully, I can get some at-bats, but I understand it’s kind of a unique situation, so I’m going to have to be patient.”

In 87 games with the Pirates in 2009, the 29-year-old batted .247 with 12 home runsa nd 40 RBIs.
