Late-Season Baseball, Early NFL Make for Must-See TV

Late-Season Baseball, Early NFL Make for Must-See TV I know I said in a previous post that the beginning of the baseball season was my favorite time of the sports year. That's because at that point in time, those were my exact sentiments.

However, my judgment must have been clouded. Because the start of the NFL season — combined with the hustle and bustle of the Red Sox playoff push — well it doesn't get any better!

The Sox have done their part so far north of the border with the Blue Jays, managing to take the first two games from Cito Gaston and Co. But the true test will be trying to win the series finale with the Yankees ready to make the trip to the Fens for Friday's AL East showdown.

Boston has gotten the better of the Bronx Bombers head to head this season with an 8-4 advantage, but the last meeting in the Bronx resulted in a four-game sweep by the Evil Empire.

This time around, it'll be the Sox looking to defend their home field, which they do better than most teams in the league. If the “real” starting lineup ever sees the field for the Sox, then wins could be on the horizon for the local nine in the latest installment of the best sports rivalry going.

Let's now switch gears to football, where fanatics of the blue and silver from coast to coast are eagerly awaiting the regular-season return of Tom Brady. His preseason debut on a surgically repaired knee looked good and if Brady's past is any indication, then things can only get better for the Patriots.

This year's team has ironed out all of the kinks and they're ready to tackle the season head on. And with some adjustments on the defensive side of the ball, they're going to be younger and faster in all facets of the game!

Like I said, this could quite possibly be the best time of the year for sports fans. On any given Sunday for the next few weeks, you can plop down in front of the tube and make an executive decision: Do I watch the Pats or whatever other football squad interests me on that day? Or do I tune into the Sox as they attempt to take the wild card (and possibly steal the division)?

Once you come to a conclusion, there's only one thing left to do: decide on pretzels or chips.

Happy watching, sports fans!
