Steelers' Roethlisberger Carted Off Practice Field on Thursday Could the Steelers soon be getting a taste of what the Patriots went through without Tom Brady last season?

Probably not. But it's never good when your quarterback gets carted off the field.

Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger injured his right ankle or foot late during practice on Thursday and was carted off the field with an ice pack on the back of his ankle. ESPN.com reports that although he did not speak to reporters, he could be overheard saying, "Oh, it just feels great. It feels like a car ran over it."

Coach Mike Tomlin was equally tight-lipped concerning the injury, and team spokesman Dave Lockett only said, "Someone stepped on his foot, and we don't have any updates other than that."

During a drill, left tackle Max Starks reportedly tripped the quarterback, who stayed on the ground for about five minutes. He was treated by the team trainer and watched for the rest of practice before noticeably limping toward the full team huddle.

Because most players who are seriously injured are immediately removed from the field and taken to a hospital, it could be fair to assume that Roethlisberger's injury is not serious.

Roethlisberger, who has looked very strong during practice over the past several weeks, will miss Saturday's preseason game at Washington. During the Steelers' Super Bowl season in 2008, he threw for 3,301 yards and 17 touchdowns, completing 59.9 percent of his passes.
