John Lackey Looking Forward to Healthy Competition in Rotation

John Lackey Looking Forward to Healthy Competition in Rotation With spring training set to kick off, Tom Caron and Peter Gammons caught up with one of Boston’s most significant additions in Fort Myers.

Pitcher John Lackey will be a part of starting rotation so daunting, it’s even getting his own competitive juices flowing.

“[The competition] will be nothing but good for the rotation, for sure,” Lackey said on NESN’s Spring Break Live. “If you see a guy go about before you and pitch well, you want to do the same. You want to hold up your end of the bargain and it’s going to be a fun rotation to be a part of.”

Something else that’s going to be fun for the first-time Red Sox? The rivalry with the Bronx Bombers.

“It’s going to be a blast,” Lackey said. “I think that’s definitely a selling point to come over to a place like this. It’s the biggest rivalry in our game and it’s going to be fun to jump right in the middle of it.”
