Most notable was the projection of Jeremy Hermida to hit 20 home runs. The youngster, whose total was projected over a full season’s worth of at-bats, was acquired from the Florida Marlins earlier in the offseason in a move with “nothing to lose” for the Red Sox, according to Gammons.
“That was a great buy-low situation,” Gammons suggested. “The Red Sox could afford to take on the contract.”
