Phil Mickelson Victory at Masters a Great Story as Tiger Woods Falls The Masters were a compelling story Sunday, as Phil Mickelson took home a well-deserved green jacket while Tiger Woods finished fourth.

Mike Whitmer of The Boston Globe stopped by SportsDesk to give his take on the Masters that was.

“The folks followed Tiger Woods at the beginning, but at the end of the week it was Phil Mickelson who produced one of the best stories we’ve seen in a long time” Whitmer noted.

Mickelson’s wife, Amy, was diagnosed with breast cancer 11 months ago and made her first public appearance since by supporting Phil at the tournament.

“Unless you have a heart of stone, how could you not feel great for a story like that?” Whitmer pondered.

The conversation inevitably turned to Woods and what was next — and no one knows. “His schedules are pretty tightly controlled secrets,” Whitmer clarified.

Whitmer feels that Woods could end up playing at Charlotte, N.C. in three weeks because it’s a tournament and course he likes. Doing so would allow him to begin preparation for the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.
