Evgeni Malkin Robbed by Finnish Goaltender Petri Vehanen at IIHF World Championships While Jaroslav Halak was letting in perhaps the easiest goal ever scored in NHL playoff history, a goalie on the other side of the world was making a highlight-reel stop on Evgeni Malkin.

OK, so the timing of the two events doesn’t exactly match up, but what Petri Vehanen, representing the goaltending factory known as Finland, did to Malkin deserves mention around the world.

In the IIHF World Championships in Germany, the 32-year-old Finn made a dazzling save on one of the game’s best young scorers to keep the score at 1-0. In doing so, Vehanen inspired his team to go on to … lose 5-0.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering how the American team did in the tournament, well, you’re probably better off not looking into that.
