John Farrell Sees Maturity in Clay Buchholz Heidi Watney caught up with Red Sox pitching coach John Farrell prior to Friday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles to get his take on the recent success of Clay Buchholz.

Buchholz is 4-0 with a 1.32 ERA is his last four starts.

“He’s got multiple ways to attack any given hitter or attack a hitter the second and third time through the order to really keep guys off balance,” Farrell said. “The one thing that we’ve seen is he’s kept the ball in the ballpark and he’s not been subject to the big inning.”

Farrell also expressed how important it is for the Red Sox rotation to continue its recent string of success, in order to give the bullpen its necessary rest.

“To sustain any kind of consistent winning streak, we have to have continued performances from Clay, Jon, Daisuke, as he’s shown, and certainly with John Lackey as well,” he said.
