Kobe Bryant now has five NBA rings. With comparisons between him and Michael Jordan at an all-time high, Bryant has to be thinking, “one more.” That is all Bryant needs to equal Jordan’s jewelry collection.
But to Jordan’s youngest son, Marcus, even a sixth ring for Kobe probably won’t be enough to mention the two in the same sentence.
Late in the second quarter of Thursday’s Game 7 of the NBA Finals, Marcus Jordan, 19, tweeted his opinion on the prevalent comparisons, Yahoo Sports reports.
"NO ONE…And I mean NO ONE should EVER com par kobe Bryant to my dad an say that he is anywhere near close to my dad He’s jagging this game," the tweet read.
At the time, Boston looked to be in control of the game and destined to hand Bryant his second Finals loss to the Celtics in three seasons.
"I know y’all just seen the stats too," Marcus Jordan added as coverage of the game compared Bryant to his father, a five-time MVP and six-time Finals MVP.
As the game progressed though, Bryant showed why the comparisons are not only increasingly warranted, but in many cases valid.
Even the younger Jordan changed his tune slightly and tweeted the following:
"Don't get me wrong Kobe is one of the best in the league…. Just no where near my dad…good game right here tho."
While Kobe Bryant continues to cement himself in the game’s history and show why he is still perhaps the best player in the game today, most will probably tell you that there will never be another Michael Jordan. In the mind of Jordan’s son, Marcus, there’s no if, ands or buts about it.
