David Ortiz Not Concerned About Home Run Derby Affecting His Swing Red Sox slugger David Ortiz will participate in the 2010 Home Run Derby in Anaheim, an event that he’s no stranger to.

Ortiz, who participated in the 2004, 2005 and 2006 contests, told NESN’s Heidi Watney on Tuesday’s Red Sox GameDay Live that he’s not worried about it messing up his swing.

“I swing hard anyway,” Ortiz said, dismissing any worries about a potential change in his swing after a night of trying to hit the ball as far as humanly possible. “I’ve done it a few times, and I’ve never had any problems because it’s not like I’m doing anything different because that’s how I swing.”

While Ortiz has never won the event, he has put on some impressive showings. In the 2005 derby, he hit 17 home runs in the first round and followed it up the next year with a 10-dinger showing in the first round.
