Mark Stuart’s Improvements Convince Peter Chiarelli to Bring Him Back

Mark Stuart's Improvements Convince Peter Chiarelli to Bring Him Back Last year was supposed to be a big year for Mark Stuart, but a series of injuries kept him off the ice for much of the season.

Still, Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli liked what he saw, enough to bring the defenseman back for another year.

“A lot of [Stuart’s improvement is] a function of confidence, so I think you’re going to see that with more minutes,” Chiarelli said on Friday, after Stuart signed a one-year deal to stay with the B’s.

“I’m very excited about the deal,” Stuart said. “I kind of expected … that if I was going to get a deal, it was probably going to be a one-year deal [to] see how I played. Hopefully, I can have a great year this year [and get] a long-term deal in the future.”
