The Red Sox have decided not to bring Jeremy Hermida back to the active roster with September call-ups.

As a result, they released Hermida on Tuesday night, reports WEEI.

Hermida was designated for assignment and replaced on the Sox' roster by Ryan Kalish on the day of the MLB trade deadline after hitting .203 for the Sox in 52 games this season. He subsequently has cleared waivers.

Hermida had shown promise during his time with the Florida Marlins, batting .296 with 18 home runs in 2007.
