Despite any concerns about the toll starting the season in Europe may take on the team, the Bruins seem genuinely excited about getting the opportunity to open their 2010-11 season in the Czech Republic.
For David Krejci and Zdeno Chara, the trip is a homecoming. Krecji is from the Czech Republic and Chara is from bordering Slovakia and played his junior hockey in Czech. In fact, Chara’s junior team played in the same arena that the Bruins practiced in on Monday.
“It’s been a long road, a hard and tough road,” Chara said of his journey that has brought him from Slovakia and the Czech to America as the captain of the Boston Bruins. “I don’t regret any of that. It just makes me a better player and a better person. Everything that is happening I think is happening for a reason. I’m just really happy to be here with my team.”
To hear more from both Chara and Krecji as well as Bruins coach Claude Julien be sure to check out Naoko Funayama‘s report from Prague in the video below from Monday’s NESN Daily.
