Do You Think The Use of Banned Substances Is a Problem in the NFL?

Do You Think The Use of Banned Substances Is a Problem in the NFL? An MLB steroid scandal results in months of media coverage and the destruction of a player’s “legacy.” In football, a PED scandal results in a four-game suspension and awards.

Texans owner Bob McNair made headlines this past week by ordering a search of his own locker room for banned substances.

Two Texans, Duane Brown and Brian Cushing, served said four-game suspensions in 2010 — with Cushing being benched for “having elevated levels of HGH in his system after exercising so much” in the wake of winning the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year award. Shawne Merriman, of course, finished third in voting for the Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2006, the same year that he missed four games for a PED suspension.

It does seem that NFL PED suspensions are becoming more and more common. It goes without saying that players in the NFL are incredibly big and strong — to the extent that you can’t help but wonder about drugs. Even so, such receives drastically less attention than it does in the MLB. This, though, is perhaps because PED scandals in baseball receive far more attention than they deserve.

What do you think?
