Report: CC Sabathia to Undergo Knee Surgery

Yankees ace CC Sabathia carried the Bronx Bombers’ rotation all season. Apparently, the load was too much for his knees.

The southpaw was diagnosed with a minor meniscus tear of the right knee that will require surgery, according to the New York Post. The Yanks expect last season’s 21-game winner to be completely healed by spring training.

The Yankees signed Sabathia to a seven-year, $161 million contract after the 2008 season. In two years with the Yanks, he’s gone 40-15 with a 3.27 ERA in 68 starts. His 21 wins this past summer are a career-best for the former Indian and Brewer.

He struggled a bit in this year’s postseason, going 2-0 but posting a 5.63 ERA and giving up 22 hits, three home runs and seven walks in 16 innings pitched. It was a significant drop-off from the ’09 playoffs, when Sabathia went 4-1 with a 1.98 ERA in five starts on the way to a World Series championship.
