Bruins Get ‘A Little Bit Lucky,’ But Still Able to Take Care of Reeling Capitals

Much has been made about the Bruins' struggles early in games this season. On Saturday night, however, the Bruins almost ruined an impressive start with a scary third period, but held on to down the Capitals.

The B's were able to jump out to a 3-0 lead, but gave a goal back in the second, before the Caps cut it to a one-goal deficit in the third. Goalie Tim Thomas continued to impress, making 25 third-period saves, giving Boston a much-needed win to snap a three-game skid.

"I liked our start tonight, and we kind of knew what was going to happen in the third with a desperate team," Bruins coach Claude Julien told Naoko Funayama after his team sent the Capitals to their eighth loss in as many games. "We didn't react the way we were supposed to [in the third period]. We got a little bit lucy there, but that was a win we needed, and we'll take it."
