There is only one American on the Bruins this season, but the impact and significance of the 1980 "Miracle on Ice" extends beyond the borders of the United States.

The Bruins say they truly benefitted from their brief trip to Lake Placid, and believe the experience will inspire them beyond Game 4 against the Montreal Canadiens — it will last them a lifetime.

"I've seen the movies and I understand what happened here." Nathan Horton told reporters before the B's left New York on Wednesday. "It's exciting to be here where it actually happened."

As for Thomas, the inspiration of the "Miracle on Ice" team has been with him since he was young.

"Those Olympics and [goaltender] Jim Craig sealed the deal," Thomas said. "That's why I became a goalie."
