The Red Sox may be going through a tough stretch to start the season, but there are plenty of reasons to be encouraged for the future.

Red Sox president and CEO Larry Lucchino stopped in during Friday's pregame broadcast to discuss the latest happenings in Red Sox Nation and says he's very encouraged with the recent contract extension signed by Adrian Gonzalez.

"He's 28 years old, we're signing a guy in his prime," Lucchino said of the slugger. "That's a very encouraging factor. We like to have a balanced portfolio of contracts of players — older ones, younger ones, in their prime — to sort of balance it out.

"We have plenty of players in their prime right now," Lucchino added. "And we're happy about that."
