Report: Lamar Odom Wins NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year Award

Like Manu Ginobili before him, you can barely call Lamar Odom a “sixth man” even if he technically starts off the bench. That, though, didn’t stop Ginobili from winning the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award in 2008 and it didn’t stop Odom from winning it this year, according to ESPN.

Odom averaged 14.4 points and 8.7 rebounds per game for the Lakers this season, shooting a career-best 53 percent from the field and 38 percent from distance. His 19.50 PER was also a high-water mark for his 12-year NBA tenure.

The stipulation for the award is that a player must come off the bench more games than he starts, which Lamar qualified for, having started 35 games and been a reserve 47 times.

Odom is the first Laker to win the award. He was sixth in the voting last season.

Regarding the report, wife Khloe Kardashian tweeted, “Ahhhhh I want to scream I am so excited today!!!! #ILoveLamar.”
