Doubleheaders provide long days for major league ballplayers. Red Sox first baseman Adrian Gonzalez said after the first game of the Red Sox' doubleheader with the Tigers on Sunday that he planned to relax, hit in the cage, throw a little bit and then prepare for the first pitch of Game 2.
The weather in Detroit was hot and muggy Sunday afternoon — with scattered thunderstorms in the forecast — making the long day seem even longer. Gonzalez said staying hydrated and getting food in your system is important as a player before heading out for the second half of a twinbill.
