The Bruins first-round series was a tough, hard-fought matchup with the rivaled Canadiens, but it taught the team a few lessons as they advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Philadelphia Flyers.
The B's jumped out to an early 2-0 series lead against the Flyers, defeating the orange and black on their home ice before bringing things back to TD Garden. Though the Bruins were confident, they were also mindful of how they came back from an 0-2 deficit against Montreal to win that series in seven games.
The Bruins understood how strong the Flyers could become if they got a taste of victory — so they shut them down in a four-game sweep instead.
"For most of this series the Bruins were clearly the better team," Bruins analyst Gord Kluzak said. "They had better goaltending, they were winning the 1-on-1 battles much more often, even in the faceoff department. The Flyers looked like a team that really wasn't that into it emotionally."
