Peter Gammons Thinks Kevin Youkilis Could Become Even More Important to Red Sox’ Success

The Red Sox' offense has come alive in May, and there's no denying that first baseman Kevin Youkilis, whose power numbers continue to improve, is a key component.

The Red Sox are hitting .286 as a team in May, while hitting 18 home runs and compiling an .803 OPS and a .453 slugging percentage — all tops in the AL for the month.

Youkilis has seven home runs to go with 27 RBIs on the season, but his average (.254) is much lower than expected thus far.

NESN's Peter Gammons says that he will become a very important player for the Red Sox as Jacoby Ellsbury and Dustin Pedroia set the table and the team sees more and more lefties.
