It's not every day that Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek gets ejected from a game. In fact, when he was tossed from Saturday's 9-8, 14-inning win over Oakland, it was just the fifth ejection of the captain's career.
The reasoning for the ejection was simple enough.
"I lost my cool a little bit," Varitek told reporters after the game.
Of course, Varitek attributed his early exit to his argument of balls and strikes with home plate umpire Tony Randazzo as well. Not long after Varitek was ejected in the ninth, closer Jonathan Papelbon followed suit, as he was also sent to the showers by Randazzo.
