Kenny Dalglish has sealed his first major transfer of what is expected to be a very active summer at Anfield, acquiring Sunderland's Jordan Henderson in a £20 million deal that will include striker David Ngog as a makeweight.

"A fee has been agreed with Liverpool for Jordan Henderson and he travels to Anfield today with the club's blessing," said a Sunderland spokesperson.

"Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson. The 20-year-old will today discuss personal terms and undergo a medical on Merseyside after a fee was agreed between the two clubs," a Liverpool statement added.

The 20-year-old Henderson was widely speculated to be a Manchester United target, but Liverpool moved quickly to sign the versatile midfielder before he goes to Denmark to represent England at the Under-21 European Championships.

Ngog, 22, has scored 19 goals in 94 appearances for Liverpool, but he has struggled to win a place on the first team.

Henderson has also played for England's senior squad, earning his first full international cap in 2010. He scored three goals for the Black Cats this past season.
