Adrian Gonzalez has been a key component to the Red Sox lineup in every month of this season, but in June, he was really, really good.
The Boston first baseman was so good, in fact, that he was named the American League Player of the Month on Tuesday.
Gonzalez led all of baseball in June with a .404 average, but he also added six home runs and 25 RBIs in 25 games during the month. Recently named the AL's starting first baseman in next week's All-Star Game in Phoenix, Gonzalez also recorded 13 multi-hit games in June.
It is the first time he's won the honor, and he becomes the first Red Sox player to win the award since David Ortiz was named the player of the month in May of 2010.
