Brockton is known as the "City of Champions" for producing boxers Rocky Marciano and Marvin Hagler, each of whom held world titles in their careers. Even their punches probably pale in comparison to the knockout blow most fans felt upon seeing the price of a hot dog at Saturday's Brockton Rox game.
The Rox, an independent minor league baseball team in the Can-Am League, sold two $80 K-O Dogs to set a Guinness world record for the most expensive hot dog. The pimped-out wiener was a foot-long, all-beef frank, "deep fried and rolled in truffle oil, then coated in porcini dust, sprinkled with white truffle shavings and topped with dollops of creme fraiche, caviar and fresh roe," according to the Brockton Rox website.
The K-O Dog humbled the previous record holder, sold at Serendipity 3 in New York City for a mere $69. Louis Glanz of Windsor, Conn., was credited with buying the record-breaking dog at Campanelli Stadium.
There was no video of Glanz after eating the K-O Dog, but we're guessing he looked a little like Carmine Vingo after getting knocked out by Marciano. A hot dog with caviar and fish eggs has to be at least as devastating as one of the Brockton Blockbuster's left hooks.
