Maybe it was karma that had Derek Jeter donning one of the ugliest uniforms in baseball history on Sunday.
After all, the Yankee captain was named the starting shortstop for the American League team in this year's All-Star Game despite batting .260 with 12 extra-base hits and spending the last two weeks on the disabled list. He is expected to return to the Yankee lineup Monday.
Jeter's rehab stint with the Trenton Thunder landed on the day that the Double-A affiliate chose to take American flags and make jerseys out of them. They didn't turn out so well.
Maybe the baseball gods were shining on Jhonny Peralta on Sunday. Many believe Peralta should be an all-star over Jeter, with Asdrubal Cabrera starting, and have complained about the popularity contest that is the all-star voting.
However, Peralta, as well as every Red Sox fan, got a little something back Sunday in the form of a star-spangled Jeter.
