Jacoby Ellsbury Wins ‘King-Slayer’ Player of Game Award Leading Red Sox To Win Against Mariners

If Jacoby Ellsbury keeps this up, NESN Nation is going to run out of imaginary trophies to award him.

Ellsbury is our "King-Slayer" player of the game Friday night for leading the Sox offense to a 7-4 victory over "King Felix" Hernandez and the Seattle Mariners.

Ellsbury earned the honors by blasting his 16th home run of the season (and seventh this month) to put the Red Sox up 2-1 in the third inning. With the win he becomes the first ever two-time winner of NESN Nation's player of the game award and also walks away with his second consecutive title after sharing Wednesday's award with Adrian Gonzalez.

Check out the video to see why NESN Nation's Nate Hinchey thought that Ellsbury deserved it over contenders like John Lackey, Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis.

Lackey was stellar, pitching seven innings and only allowing one run while picking up his third straight win. Meanwhile, Pedroia stayed hot and extended his career-high hitting streak to 19 games while Youkilis had two hits and a couple of RBIs in the win.
