The 1958 Red Sox put together the best home record in the American League but couldn't carry the same success on the road and finished third in the American League with a record of 79-75.
In their 25th season under owner Tom Yawkey the Sox were an astounding 49-28 at Fenway Park but only 30-47 away from home. A poor road record, coupled with a 4-10 April mark, ensured that Boston would not be a factor in the pennant race as the local nine finished 13 games behind the eventual World Series champion Yankees.
Fenway also played host to the annual Mayor's Charity Field Day on June 23. Popular TV personality Ed Sullivan entertained the crowd during the event, which included a baseball game with the novelty George Chain Gang team.
