Shalrie Joseph Named to Eighth MLS All-Star Game, Will Be Revolution’s Lone Representative

Make it another All-Star nod for an MLS legend.

Shalrie Joseph will be the Revolution’s lone representative in this year’s MLS All-Star Game, as the New England midfielder was named to the team in coach Hans Backe‘s final All-Star lineup, Backe announced Monday.

Joseph has been a mainstay on the All-Star roster for nearly a decade, being selected in eight of his nine MLS seasons.

Although he was not among the 11 players voted in by fans — a list that includes superstars Landon Donovan, David Beckham and Thierry Henry — Joseph was chosen by Backe, who had the final say on who would make the 22-man roster.

Seven of the 11 players chosen through fan voting are expected to play in the game, with Seattle goalie Kasey Keller and FC Dallas midfielder Brek Shea missing due to international team obligations and New York’s Rafa Marquez and LA’s Omar Gonzalez out with injuries.

The MLS All-Stars traditionally host international soccer clubs in each year’s All-Star game. This year, they will take on English Premier League champions Manchester United at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J., on July 27.
