One of the most difficult parts of Victor Martinez's departure from Boston was when the four-time All-Star had to break the news to his son, Victor Jose. But after half a season in Detroit, Victor Jose has become a lovable clown in the Tigers clubhouse, just as he was during Martinez's year-plus in Boston.

On Wednesday, Victor Jose held a "press conference" to encourage Tigers fans to vote for his father as part of Major League Baseball's All-Star Game Final Vote.

Appearing alongside the Detroit Tigers mascot, the 6-year-old said that he really wants his dad to play in the All-Star Game. He even gave Red Sox All-Star David Ortiz a shout-out, calling him one of his friends.

Martinez is one of five American League players up for the honor, which awards the final spot on each league's All-Star team to the player who receives the most fan votes.

Chicago White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko led the AL voting entering Wednesday. Alex Gordon of the Kansas City Royals, Adam Jones of the Baltimore Orioles and Ben Zobrist of the Tampa Bay Rays are also up for the final spot on the AL squad.
