It's tough enough to try and make an impact when you're called up to the big leagues for the first time. It's even tougher when you're a catcher.

That's the situation Red Sox prospect Ryan Lavarnway faces after being called up by the Red Sox. The slugger hasn't yet been behind the plate, but he continues to digest as much information as he can about catching at the big league level.

He told Heidi Watney that he's been studying the advanced scouting material he's been presented with, and he's also gotten a chance to pick the brains of veteran Sox backstops Jason Varitek and Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
