He will not realize those hopes anytime soon, as the England international suffered a fresh hamstring strain during Liverpool’s 1-0 loss at Stoke City. He played the final 15 minutes of the game, entering as a substitute in the 81st minute. Johnson strained his hamstring at some point in that shift.
The injury is a recurrence of the one he suffered in LFC’s final preseason game on August 6 against Valencia. That hamstring strain was initially thought to sideline him for two weeks, but he missed a month of action.
Johnson revealed the hamstring injury on twitter after Saturday’s game. “Can’t believe my luck at the mo. Done my hammy again today! Hopefully be back soon!!!”
Hamstring injuries are often difficult to treat without an extended period of rest. Johnson will almost certainly miss the rest of September’s action and possibly much of October’s.
