One of the biggest storylines surrounding the Red Sox this offseason has been the news that players drank beer in the team's clubhouse during games. Major League Baseball executive vice president of baseball operations Joe Torre has said that his office will look into the situation further, according to The Boston Globe.
Torre said there is no set plan for what the league's investigation will entail, but he said it's something that the MLB is "concerned about," the Globe's Peter Abraham reports.
Torre said he plans to talk to some people in order to gather all the facts, and he also said that Major League Baseball could consider banning alcohol altogether. The Red Sox are reportedly one of 12 teams that allow alcohol in the clubhouse.
"If we do happen to bar alcohol from the clubhouses, you have to understand the intent of this thing and what it looks like," said Torre, who reportedly noted that he wants the players involved to understand the weight of their actions. "We're up there and we're role models, or we should be role models for the youngsters and how they behave."
Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz admitted this offseason that drinking did go on in the Red Sox clubhouse, but both pitchers, as well as Josh Beckett, John Lackey, Terry Francona and Larry Lucchino have denied allegations that such drinking spread to the dugout during games.
