It's official. Ben Cherington is now the general manager of the Boston Red Sox.

Cherington was introduced at a news conference on Tuesday, at which point he discussed the state of the organization and the club's future plans. The new Sox GM said that pitching depth will be a priority, while also breaking the news that John Lackey will undergo Tommy John surgery.

Following the news conference, NESN's Heidi Watney caught up with Red Sox president/CEO Larry Lucchino to discuss Cherington's past, his future and the future of the Red Sox.
