Deron Williams’ Number Retired by Turkish Team Besiktas After Just 12 Games

Perhaps the Turkish club Besiktas is trying to pursuade Deron Williams to return someday, or perhaps it's just showing its appreciation for the time he spent with the club. Either way, it made a bold move by retiring Williams' No. 8 after just 12 games.

Williams set a trend this past offseason, becoming the first NBA player to sign with a team overseas during the lockout. Now that the lockout is over, though, he and most of the other players will be returning to their respective NBA clubs.

But Besiktas' farewell treatment went above and beyond what other clubs were doing for their departing NBA stars. The team elected to hold a ceremony, during which Williams' No. 8 was raised to the rafters.

Williams, despite appearing in just 12 games with the team, played well. His lasting impression, however, was a 50-point performance against Goettingen.
