Chef at Rio Ferdinand’s Popular Restaurant Arrested in Marijuana Bust

A chef at Rio Ferdinand‘s restaurant was arrested after police found 29 bags of marijuana in his work locker on Friday. The Daily Mail reports police searched the chef’s locker at Russo’s — Ferdinand’s Manchester hot-spot — and found the contraband.

“At 4.15pm on Friday 6 January 2012, police officers executed a search warrant at Rosso restaurant on Spring Gardens in Manchester city centre.,” a police spokesman said. “As a result of the warrant, 29 snap bags of drugs believed to be cannabis were recovered from a locker in the staff area. As part of police inquiries, a 55-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of class B drugs with intent to supply and has been cautioned.’

The cops reportedly searched the man’s home and found drugs there. They went looking for him at work, but he was not present at the time. They then searched his locker and found the sealed bags. He was arrested later. 

Ferdinand is not believed to have known the drugs were being stored there. The chef has since been dropped from the restaurant staff, in classic United fashion.

Rosso is a popular hangout for celebrities and athletes in Manchester. United celebrated their 2010-11 Premier League championship there.
