Joao Teixeira has emerged as a possible transfer target for Liverpool FC. The Daily Express reports the 18-year-old midfielder has impressed with his play in the NextGen Series.

Teixeira is a product of Sporting Lisbon's famed youth academy — the same school from which Luis Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo graduated in recent years — but has yet to make his mark on Sporting's first team.

The NextGen Series is a new, U-19 competition involving some of Europe's top clubs (including LFC and Sporting). It's a proving ground for many of the stars of tomorrow, and scouts from clubs across Europe have been watching it closely.

Both Liverpool and Sporting have progressed to the quarterfinal round. Sporting will host Inter Milan on Jan. 25. It's possible that LFC will send scouts to that game to watch Teixeira.

The young Reds will play Tottenham on Feb. 1 in the same stage of the Series.
