Report: John Barnes Named Haldia Manager, Liverpool Legend to Lead Indian PLS TeamJohn Barnes is set to take his managerial talents to India. The Liverpool FC legend and former Newcastle United boss has been named manager of Indian Premier League Soccer team Haldia, according to the Hindu.

The maiden edition of Premier League Soccer (PLS) will kick off on March 24. The six-team tournament runs for seven weeks. It will feature six franchises — Kolkata, Howrah, Barasat, Durgapur, Silguri and Haldia. Each has one "icon player", who is a big-name foreign star.

Barnes will lead a Haldia team that includes former Argentina captian Juan Pablo Sorin as its "icon player".

Other foreign stars that will participate in the league include Hernan Crespo, Fabio Cannavaro and Robert Pires. Indian players will be allocated to franchises in an auction on Feb. 12.

Haldia is owned by local firm, Grey Mind Communications.
