Bobby Valentine, Red Sox Remember Sidd Finch’s First Appearance on April Fools’ Day (Video)

Editor’s note: This story was originally published on April 1, 2012.

Plenty of young guys on the Red Sox’ roster have no clue who Sidd Finch is, but the fictitious pitching phenomenon still brought smiles to the faces of manager Bobby Valentine and other Sox graybeards at spring training in Fort Myers on April Fools’ Day.

NESN Daily looked back on the classic April Fools’ Day hoax from decades ago, including the original Sports Illustrated article, a chat with the man who posed as Finch (Joe Berton), and hearing how Valentine expected the 168-mph-throwing, French horn-playing prospect to step into the clubhouse at any moment.
