Through 60 minutes, neither the Bruins or the Capitals were able to put the puck on net. But a mere 78 seconds into sudden-death overtime and Chris Kelly pushed the Bruins to a 1-0 series lead.

Kelly’s breakaway was jump-started by a fantastic foot save by Bruins goalie Tim Thomas, who deflected the puck off his skate and out near the blue line. Benoit Pouliot got a handle on the puck and skated past a few defenders up the ice in search of a linemate.

Kelly just happened to be breaking off from a Washington defender when Pouliot sent in a blazing pass and the rest is history. Kelly shoots from just inside the blue line, Capitals goalie Braden Holtby watches it fly by his left shoulder pad and suddenly the B’s take a 1-0 win heading into Saturday’s Game 2 showdown.
