Denmark Bans Players From Using ’24-7 Open Microphone’ of Social Media During European Championships

Now we know which is the “no fun football federation.”

The Danish football federation (DBU) has forbidden its players from posting updates to their social media accounts during this summer’s European Championships, the Guardian reports.

“DBU spokesman Lars Behrendt said on Tuesday that the coach, Morten Olsen, wants players to focus on the tournament and for ‘the 24-7 open microphone’ to be shut down,” the report says.

Danish sports minister Uffe Elbaek expressed concern that the rule violated the players’ right to free speech. But his fears have been laid to rest.

The DBU promises fans that players and coaches will give a number of updates on the federation’s own social media accounts during the tournament.
