Liverpool FC will make Toronto, Canada the first stop on its North American tour. LFC will hit the metropolis to the north, and play a friendly against Toronto FC on July 21, Fenway Sports Management announced.
As we reported last week, Toronto is home to some of LFC's most fervent fans. The Reds will face Canada's Reds at the Rogers Center in a game that is likely to pack the storied venue.
"We're delighted to be opening our North American tour in Canada with a game against Toronto FC," LFC managing director Ian Ayre said. "We played Porto at the same stadium — when it was the SkyDome — back in 2004 in front of over 40,000 fans, and it will be great to give our fans in the region another chance to see Liverpool play live."
On July 20, current and former LFC players will visit Toronto FC's brand-new training complex in Downsview Park, Canada. Toronto FC is among Major League Soccer's leaders in developing facilities, and investing in both youth and infrastructure.
The game against Toronto FC is the third confirmed date on LFC's preseason tour. It will open in Toronto, before heading back to its "home base" in Boston, Mass. Games against AS Roma (at Fenway Park on July 25) and Tottenham Hotspur (at Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium on July 28) will give fans a rare chance to see their favorite players live.
