Report: Red Sox, Cardinals ‘Reaching Out’ to Roy Oswalt (Video)

Roy Oswalt was linked to the Red Sox a number of times this past offseason. A few weeks into the season, the rumors aren't going away.

The Red Sox and Cardinals are among the teams "reaching out" to Oswalt, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

The free-agent righty drew plenty of interest during the offseason — even reportedly receiving an offer from Boston — but he ultimately decided to wait until some point during the regular season to make a return. While it's still unclear if and when exactly the 34-year-old right-hander will sign with a team, the Red Sox are certainly in need of pitching help.

Boston has the worst team ERA (6.68), WHIP (1.60) and batting average against (.297) in all of baseball, and the Red Sox' record as of Monday (4-10) reflects that.

Oswalt went 9-10 with a 3.69 ERA in 23 starts for the Phillies during an injury-plagued 2011. The righty is a three-time All-Star, though, finishing in the top five for Cy Young voting on five separate occasions. He's also won 20 games twice in his career, and is 159-93 with a 3.21 ERA in 339 games (326 starts) over the course of 11 big-league seasons.

At this point, the Red Sox would love that kind of production.
