Will Middlebrooks has been the talk of the town in Boston over the past week. The Red Sox third baseman has put up some eye-popping numbers and deservedly has gotten some kudos for his impressive baseball skills. But most fans don't know that he also had a chance to play football.

Middlebrooks, who accepted a scholarship to play baseball and football at Texas A&M, was tempted to pursue the gridiron, but ultimately decided to follow his passion for the diamond instead.

NESN's Jim Rice, who was offered a football scholarship to Nebraska, reflects on his decision to stick with baseball and compares his experience to that of Middlebrooks.
