Central African Republic Goalkeeper Geoffrey Lembet Assaults and Batters Goalpost (Video)

They say the goalpost is the goalkeeper’s best friend. On Friday, fans of African soccer witnessed a furious confrontation between two friends.

Central African Republic (C.A.R.) goalkeeper Geoffrey Lembet landed a series of blows against the goalpost, and we’re not really sure why.

The incident took place in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Egypt and the C.A.R. With Egypt leading 2-1 in the second half, Lambert suffered an unknown injury which required treatment.

Just as it looked like Lembet was ready to resume playing, the referee told him he needed to leave the field. That’s when the 23-year-old lost it. He walked up to the near post and punched it … hard.

After landing the first blow, he protested a little more, walked over to the far post, and got swinging. Lembet landed a flurry of punches to the post’s midsection. The stunned post had to wonder just what it did to warrant such a beating.

What we want to know is: With friends like these, who needs enemies?
